iDEAlab at Technical College of Applied Sciences in Zrenjanin

 

 

 

Technical College of Applied Sciences Zrenjanin (VTS) was founded in 1960. It educates about 1000 students at undergraduate and graduate-specialist studies. Teaching is organized in 3 departments: Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management. VTS aims to improve the quality of teaching and studying through adoption of EU standards in HE. In recent years VTS has participated in projects financed by the EU either as a leading partner or a co-partner: Establishment of the Centre for R&D and Technology Transfer (2006-2007), Education and Certification of Welders in Banat  Center for Numerical Simulation and Digital/Rapid Prototyping (2010-2011), Entrepreneurial Baby Boom in Banat (2011-2013),  Researchers’ Night (2011). Now it will make experience with TEMPUS for the first time. It will contribute to the project by expanding the group of target users and being the best practical example how technical vocational schools could support growth of Serbian innovation capacity.

 

The role of the iDEAlab within the institution

 

iDEAlab is a creative co-working space wide open for students of the Technical College of Applied Sciences in Zrenjanin. iDEAlab is there to provide some adequate space and equipment for realisation of some specific courses designed for students, which can maybe also help them finishing their diploma work.

Students and other potential iDEAlab users are able to develop their ideas through the mentorship work with the experienced mentors in many trainings and lectures. There are many available modern technology tools and kits, such as a 3D scanner, 3D printers, Arduino and LEGO Mindstorm etc.

iDEAlab offers many trainings, lectures and workshops about entrepreneurship and innovation.

The academic personnel and technical staff of the Technical College of Applied Sciences in Zrenjanin operate in the iDEAlab, and for the moment, there is no need to hire any additional professional staff. Also, there are some students who are volunteers.

There are several target groups of the iDEAlab’s activities. Some of them are:

  • Students with entrepreneurial ideas
  • Students with practical projects (bachelor, seminars)
  • College stuff
  • SMEs and enterprises interested in open innovation
  • Entrepreneurs and potential mentors
  • Local government
  • Local companies
  • Regional Center for Talented Children (iDEAlab established cooperation with them)

Potential partners of iDEAlab are student and NGO organizations, some other compatible and similar projects and centres that are operating within the college, also local government and local entrepreneurial and industrial community and Zrenjanin ICT cluster.

 

iDEAlab specific services/activities

 

There are many activities and services that iDEAlab offers to its users, such as many different trainings, lectures, workshops with the permanent presence of coaching, mentoring and counselling from professionals. iDEAlab is organising several entrepreneurial events and networking with entrepreneurs and companies through Open Innovation concept. There are also many available modern technology tools and kits available for its users and tenants.

At the moment iDEAlab is also giving the adequate space for some lectures and some specific courses for the students, helping them to finish their diploma work through mentoring work with the professors.
